Anthropic is the AI safety company behind Claude — a direct alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, built with a strong emphasis on keeping AI aligned with human values.
What it really means
Anthropic is an AI research and deployment company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, including the Dario and Daniela Amodei. They built Claude, their flagship AI assistant, with a specific philosophy: instead of just making AI smarter, they wanted to make it safer and more predictable.
The core idea is “constitutional AI.” Think of it like this: rather than relying on humans to manually review every questionable output (which is expensive and slow), Anthropic gives Claude a written set of principles — a “constitution” — to guide its own behavior. - No local data control. Like all cloud AI, your data goes to Anthropic’s servers. If you handle sensitive client information (HIPAA, legal privilege), you need to check their data handling policies carefully.
